Ultrasonic module HC-SR04

HC-SR04 is a widely used and popular sensor that can be used for measuring the distance between itself and the object that is placed in front of the sensor. Connecting to Dasduino itself is simple, the sensor requires only two codes for controlling and uses 5V voltage. There is also a library that provides us with distance information. Simple soil humidity sensor
Simple soil humidity sensor

How many times have you watered your plants and feared you’re overdoing it? With the simple soil humidity sensor, those worries are a thing of the past! This two-part sensor is straightforward to use. The two exposed prongs go into the soil and send the humidity information to the sensor via the connected wire. The more water is in the ground, the better the results will be.

The two pieces are connected with the provided JST-SH 2-pin cable. The sensor uses the LM393 differential comparator. The main benefit of this board is ability to give analog and digital output. By setting the potentiometer on the board, you are able to get digital signal at the DO pin when signal crosses certain value, while analog values will be present on the AO pin at all times.

Voltage & current sensor INA219 breakout
Voltage & current sensor INA219 breakout

The INA219 is a digital device that allows the measurement of current, voltage, and therefore power. Simply, connect wire serial through this device and it will give all the information provided via I2C communication. It is very simple and reliable to use. It has a jumper for making changes to the I2C address so you can connect more than one INA219 to single microcontroller.

The maximum current of the measurement is determined by the shunt resistor found on the plate which is 0.1ohm (± 3.2A). Yes, it can measure the power in both directions! If you want to measure other currents or smaller currents more precisely, check out the datasheet to change that resistor. The maximum voltage that can be measured is 26V.

Color and gesture sensor APDS-9960 breakout
Color and gesture sensor APDS-9960 breakout

The APDS-9960 is a small sensor that measures four things at once. It recognizes the movements you make in front of it (up, down, left, right) and it can identify the proximity of the object, so you have two more movements: to the sensor and from the sensor. In addition, it has an ambient light sensor and a color sensor which gives red, green, and blue (RGB) colors as output. This sensor with many features was even built into the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.

All gestures are detected at a distance of 10 to 20 cm and it has built-in UV and IR filters to make sure it won’t be confused by other sources of light. Connected using well-known I2C communication.

DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor
DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor

DHT11 is the simplest temperature and humidity sensor that can find. It connects to Dasduino in a very simple way using just one code (video below) and gives you back two variables as temperature and humidity.

It does not require extra calibration to work, just plug it in and use it. Look up the library for it in the TUTORIAL section.

PIR Movement sensor board with easyC
PIR Movement sensor board with easyC

A PIR (passive infrared) motion sensor is a device that detects physical movement within its field of vision by sensing changes in infrared radiation. This sensor works on the principle of detecting thermal thermal signals emitted by objects, mostly warm-blooded creatures like humans. The “passive” in the name refers to the fact that the sensor itself does not emit or radiate any energy for detection.

When it detects motion, the sensor sends a digital signal to the microcontroller. The angle that the sensor “sees” is 100 degrees and reaches up to 5 meters. It is often used in a variety of applications, including home security systems, automatic lighting, and energy management, among others.

Our breakout board simplifies the use of the PIR sensor by using easyC technology, making it easily connectable with microcontrollers or other circuits. It accepts input from the PIR sensor and translates it into signals that your microcontroller can interpret. In addition to the aforementioned PIR sensor, the board also contains a small ATTiny404 microcontroller, as well as a switch for selecting the I2C address. This breakout board comes with 2 easyC connectors for easy integration into the easyC system. If you do not wish to use easyC, the module can also be used via standard headers.

Capacitive soil sensor
Capacitive soil sensor

How many times have you watered your plants and feared you overdid it? With the capacitive soil sensor, those worries are a thing of the past!

Most cheap soil sensors work on the resistance principle, where there are two prongs and the sensor measures the conductivity between them. They work fine at first, but eventually begin to oxidize due to the exposed metal. Even if they are gold plated! Due to oxidation, the resistance goes up and up, so you have to constantly recalibrate your code. Also, resistance measurements do not always work in loose soil.

This design with capacitive measurement is superior. Capacitive measurements use only one prong, have no exposed metal, and do not introduce direct current into your plants.
