Solid state relay (SSR) is an electronic switch that can turn a much higher power load on or off at a small input signal. It has the same role as a regular electromechanical relay, only the SSR has no moving parts which eliminates the possibility of mehanical failure. This module has 8 relays on it which means you can control 8 large consumers at once.
